RENTING A CAR
Renting a car or scooter in Cozumel is easy. Although I would not recommend to rent a scooter;there are way too many accidents.
Many of the large car companies have offices on the island, and there are plenty of smaller local companies as well, particularly for scooter and bike rentals.
Below is a list of car rental companies located at or near the Cozumel airport:
Avis and Hertz have counters inside the airport terminal.
Across the street from the airport to the left of the entrance is Thrifty/Dollar and Alamo. This is just a short walk from the terminal.
We would recommend you use http://www.carrentals.com/ to shop rates and even book on-line. We have used it ourselves and we have found it to be easy for our guests, and it allows you to shop for the best price. The prices quoted on the website do not include insurance. Wait until you arrive on the island and purchase insurance directly from the car company, rather than buying the supplemental coverage offered by CarRentals.com. It is usually more expensive and local car companies will often not accept it in the event you should be in an accident.
We strongly recommend you purchase the full insurance offered to you for your protection, safety and convenience. It is a law in Mexico to have car insurance, as well. Getting a quote ahead of time is always a great idea!
Here are some links and contact information on a few of the local companies.
